We are thrilled to share the news that Urban Edge’s Holtzer Park project has received a funding award from DHCD! The announcement was held in Swampscott last Thursday, July 18.
Holtzer Park, located at 137 Amory Street in Jamaica Plain, will provide 62 units of new construction rental housing affordable to households earning up to 30% and 60% of Area Median Income. The project will lease undeveloped land from the Boston Housing Authority (BHA) as part of a master plan redevelopment at 125 Amory Street undertaken by Urban Edge with The Community Builders and the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation.
Holtzer Park will be constructed on an approximately 53,000 square-foot portion of the site, currently containing surface parking. Due to grade changes, the building will have four stories on Amory Street and five stories at the rear of the site. The development will include indoor bike storage, laundry facilities, and a community room, and the site will offer surface parking and a landscaped children’s play area. Urban Edge is the sole sponsor and developer of Holtzer Park, which will be financed and constructed independently from the other 125 Amory Street master plan components. The project is named for the Holtzer-Cabot Electric Company, which manufactured electric motors and other parts on the site in the 19th century.
